Description
Rationale
These datasets were used during the Datasets Biodiversa+ Habitat Pilots workshop in Flanders (15/10/2025 in the afternoon session) to illustrate the potential and challenges of Sentinel-2 L2A time series to monitor soil moisture and inundated area in grasslands and wetlands. The script to analyse these datasets is provided on GitHub.
The NetCDF (Network Common Data Form) (.nc)
Sentinel-2 L2A time series data for bands B02, B03, B04, B05, B08, B8A, B11, B12 and SCL, dowloaded from OpenEO with R. The script is provided on GitHub.
For the technical documentation of the Sentinel-2 L2A band layers, please visit following websites:

The regions that were used to download the time-series datasets are contained within Demervallei.gpkg. fid=3 is the region of Webbekomsbroek, wherefore three time-series datacubes where retrieved with the script:
Period: 2020-01-01 - 2024-12-31: polygon_Demervallei_3.nc
Period: 2025-01-01 - 2025-10-06: polygon_Demervallei_new_3.nc
Period: 2025-10-06 - 2025-10-13: polygon_Demervallei_last_3.nc
Target sites for the field trip
Webbekom_5testsites_demo.gpkg: Five target sites within the natural area where selected beforehand (one week before the field visist) based on accessibility (area not to much inundated and the absence of livestock).
Survey points collected during the field visits (15/10/2025)
Duration: 9am - 12.30 pm
survey_points_HabitatPilot.gpkg: Point locations were collected in QField with a smartphone, wereby a hand-held RTK corrected GPS provided centimeter spatial accuracy. Each of the points got one of following labels:
Inundated open: this area is inundated and is open (no tall vegetation is hindering the spectral signal to the satellite).
Inundated semi: this area is inundated, but tall vegetation like reet and tall grass migh hinder the spectral signal to the satellite.
Inundated close: this area is inundated, but tall vegetation is hindering the spectral signal to the satellite.
Non-inundated: this area is not inundated.
This data layers was used for demonstration purpose (no real statistical validation).
