Description
These are the raw data and code that were used to create the dataset "Northwestern European arthropod life histories and ecological traits" on GBIF (https://www.gbif.org/dataset/a684ca81-66f3-4d38-863e-463f79220f03). For a more detailed description of this dataset and its purpose, see the manuscript by Logghe et al. (2024): https://doi.org/10.1101/2024.12.17.628846. The dataset published on GBIF resulted from merging the raw datasets found in "Raw datasets.7z" with each other and with the realised thermal niche data found in "Calculating thermal niches.7z". "Calculating thermal niches.7z" contains data files on realised thermal niches, calculated by overlaying species distribution data derived from GBIF with WorldClim climate data in QGIS. Every order has its own separate txt file, with estimations of mean, minimum and maximum temperature niche for every species. Additionally, the ZIP file contains the code that was used for downloading GBIF occurences in R and calculating the thermal niches in QGIS. "Raw datasets.7z" contains raw datasets for every order. Within each dataset, one row contains trait data derived for a single species from a single source. This means that the same species might occur multiple times within the dataset. A metadata file is provided to explain the different columns. "Merging raw datasets.Rmd" is the R script that was used to merge all raw datasets with each other and with the calculated thermal niches, resulting in the "Northwestern European arthropod life histories and ecological traits" dataset on GBIF.
