Organisation profile

Organisation profile

The Nature & Society research team is an interdisciplinary team that studies the relationships between people and nature in Flanders. Using a rich arsenal of social, economic, ecological and participatory concepts and methodologies, we study the complexity and interconnectedness of social and ecological systems. Our research results in new insights and knowledge for policy, and for concrete support of solutions in practice.

The research of the Nature & Society team focuses on landscapes where nature, agriculture, urban and other functions are interwoven. The team coordinates 3 themes of the Position Paper of INBO: Nature in the City, Agriculture & Biodiversity, and Multifunctional Open Space. Through local, regional and international projects, we bring scientific knowledge together with societal expertise. Our projects contribute to robust, sustainable and equitable connections between nature and actors in Flanders.
