Research expertise
Dries Adriaens is senior onderzoeker binnen het team Milieu en Klimaat van het INBO. Momenteel werkt hij vooral rond de standplaatsvereisten van terrestrische vegetaties. Naast het nodige observationeel onderzoek omvat dit ook modelleerwerk en scenario-analyses. Daarnaast is Dries ook nauw betrokken bij het beleid rond Europees beschermde natuurwaarden, gaande van het opstellen van (criteria voor) de instandhoudingsdoelstellingen van soorten en vegetaties, het afbakenen van zoekzones, de monitoring van de toestand op het terrein, en de rapportage naar de Europese Commissie. Dries genoot een opleiding als bio-ingenieur en industrieel ingenieur, en werkte voor zijn doctoraatsonderzoek rond de invloed van ruimtelijke en temporele processen op de soortensamenstelling van kalkgraslanden in België.
Dries werkte reeds op verschillende Vlaamse en internationale projecten bij het INBO, van het oplijsten van provinciaal prioritaire soorten in Oost-Vlaanderen tot de impact van klimaatverandering op vallei-ecosystemen.
