Personal profile

Research expertise

Jan Wouters is a senior researcher within the Environment and Climate team of INBO.

During his training as a bio-engineer and at the INBO he specialized in studying the physical requirements (ecohydrological, soil science, ..) of vegetations. Jan also works on translating existing knowledge into policy-relevant applications. Some examples of this are:
• the PotNat gis-tool with which the potential for nature types in Flanders can be estimated,
• delineating search zones for European protected natural values,
• drawing up (criteria for) the conservation objectives of vegetations
• various reports on habitat requirements of terrestrial vegetation.

Another aspect of Jan's expertise is policy-oriented research into the impact of environmental pressures on European protected habitat types and regionally important biotopes.
