Personal profile

Research expertise

Joris Everaert has been working as a biologist at INBO since 2000, currently within the Species Diversity team. He is an expert in the ecology and monitoring of birds and mammals (including bats). He is also specialized in the anthropogenic effects on birds and mammals (disturbance by light, sound, movement, radiation) in particular of wind turbines, power lines and road infrastructure. Joris has experience in the production of decision-supporting instruments (eg. guidelines and sensitivity mapping for wind turbines, priority maps for defragmentation of nature around road infrastructure). Advice concerning impact assessments and monitoring of planned wind farms and other anthropogenic effect sources, and scientific support for policy decisions, are also part of his task at INBO. Joris also coordinates and performs field research into the possible effects of wind turbines on birds and bats, including with radar technology.
