Research expertise

Kristof works as a veterinarian at INBO, the Research Institute for Nature and Forest, a Flemish government institution. As a senior scientist he is specialized in fauna management research, especially the control of brown rat, muskrat and coypu. Leading to a broad experience and knowledge in humane trapping standards and control methods. As head of the Laboratory for Animal Science INBO and member of the Local Ethical Committee INBO Kristof is familiar with animal welfare (regulations) and ethical standards.  As a board member of the Belgian Wildlife Disease Society Kristof has a special interest in wildlife diseases and was involved in research on zoonoses like hanta virus, MRSA, toxoplasmosis, leptospirosis, HAE, Yersinia spp, HEV …. He is co-organiser of the biennial BWDS symposium. His skills in necropsy were developed during a two years period working as an assistant at the Department of Pathology, Bacteriology and Avian Diseases of Ghent University and refined throughout his current job at INBO.  A broad spectrum of wild animals their anatomy and pathology are part of his necropsy expertise. Kristof is (co)author of several publications and participated at numerous international conferences on vertebrate pest management and wildlife diseases.
