Personal profile

Research expertise

Maarten Stevens is a senior scientist at the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). He is a member of the team responsible for the publication of the Nature Report Flanders. The Nature Report contains indicators, in-depth analysis and evaluations on the state and trend of biodiversity, the results of policy programs and potential scenarios for the future. Thereby, we rely mainly on the synthesis of existing studies, but also on new analyses of qualitative and quantitative data, in which we adopt a system approach.

Within the Nature Reporting team, Maarten specializes in spatial (GIS) and statistical analyzes. His thematic expertise lies in ecosystem services, aquatic systems and system analyzes. Maarten is an ecologist by training and holds a PhD in estuarine ecology (KU Leuven). Before joining the Nature Reporting team, he worked within the estuaries and aquatic management teams on the analysis of river restoration, fish migration and the eel management plan.
