Personal profile

Research expertise

Pieter Vangansbeke is researcher in forest ecology and management at INBO since 2025. His work focusses on forests under climate change and he currently investigates (1) the effects of climate change on forest biodiversity and functioning, (2) how forest management can alleviate climate change effects, and (3) how forests contribute to climate change mitigation by storing carbon.

His previous research at Ghent University (Forest & Nature Lab) dealt with multifunctional forest managent in pine forests on sandy soil, on the ecological restoration of grasslands after agricultural land use and on the importance of forest microclimates and the effects on biodiversity.
