Research expertise

Stien Heremans researches the use of remote sensing and machine learning models for deriving information on land use, ecosystem composition and functioning. We focus on information that can be implmented for monitoring and evaluating environmental policy in Flanders. A broad range of imagery can be used, from drones to satellite images. Also, the techniques for transforming these images to useful information are diverse, ranging from mechanistic models over statistical relations to non-parametric machine learning models.
