Personal profile

Research expertise

My research focuses on the governance of nature-society interactions. I am especially interested in the co-evolution of land use and ecosystems, institutions, knowledge and value systems. I evaluate policy programmes and analyse approaches like natural capital accounting and nature based solutions. This research is mostly conducted for the Nature Report that INBO presents two times per legislature to the Flemish minister for Nature and Environment.

During the 1990's I did research at the Public Management Institute (Leuven University) on the implementation of performance management in Flemish government agencies. In addition I developed and conducted training programs on public budgeting and performance management for civil servants. My doctoral dissertation discussed factors of failure and succes for the adoption of reforms like performance budgeting and cost accounting. Before this I studied business administration (Leuven University) and fiscal sciences (Fiscale Hogeschool Brussel).
