BirdWatch - A satellite-based service for the mapping of habitat suitability for farmland birds and the spatial and socio-economic optimisation of greening measures in agricultural areas

Project Details

Abstract

BirdWatch aims to increase biodiversity and farmland ecosystem health and to promote sustainable farming practices. BirdWatch will provide stakeholders with satellite data-derived maps of farmland bird habitat suitability to better monitor and predict the development of biodiversity in their agricultural regions. They can identify the appropriate greening measures by considering the associated economic consequences. A web-platform will allow the mapping and monitoring the suitability of agricultural areas. Stakeholders can determine if habitat quality is sufficient according to EU and national regulations. They can derive optimal greening measures that identifies the best land allocation option based on specific user-defined constraints.
