Abstract
On behalf of De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, INBO will conduct a targeted survey of breeding common kingfishers along the Durme in Lokeren in 2026. During several site visits, (likely) nesting locations will be accurately mapped. These data are essential for the appropriate assessment of the planned project ‘construction of technical roads along the left bank of the Durme, from Veerstraat to Gentdam’ (phase 2 of Durme Dikes project). As the dikes and banks will be redeveloped, kingfisher breeding sites may be affected. The results provide a scientific basis for the permit application and the planned construction of artificial nesting walls.
