Project Details
Abstract
Since 1948, INBO has been conducting research on the breeding of poplar and willow species for the production of industrially high-quality wood, biomass for bioenergy, and recently also for second-generation biofuels. The selection process (20 years) takes place in different phases: performing crosses, selection at seedling level, selection at clone level in the pilot nursery and selection at pre-commercial level where candidate cultivars are planted and monitored at different locations. This project aims to introduce different cultivars to the market in the period 2014-2029.
