Early-warning monitoring network for drought in nature areas

Project Details

Abstract

At present it is not possible to monitor (acute) drought due to precipitation shortages in nature reserves. An indicator based on the groundwater level is used for this purpose.
This project aims to design an early-warning monitoring network of locations where the groundwater level is not only frequently measured, but where the results are also made available quickly.
The monitoring network must allow for well-founded decisions to be made per water basin in case of severe drought. The measuring points are therefore chosen in such a way that a relevant picture is obtained for each basin, taking into account the habitat types present.
