eDNA analysis into the presence of Northern crested newt (EVINBO)

Project Details

Abstract

This research project comprises two sections with an eDNA screening (from sampling to reporting) for the possible presence of Northern crested newt.

The first comprises the screening of a series of water bodies for the presence of Northern crested newt (Triturus cristatus) in the Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. Plans exist there to construct additional pools on the Steertse Heide to protect Northern crested newts. Before starting this project, an overview of the presence of this species in the area must be made.

The second part comprises an eDNA analysis of a series of ponds in Liedekerke in which a translocation of Northern crested newts was carried out. There we want to measure the status of the introduced populations.
