Enlarging the distribution area of bullhead and brook lamprey through habitat restoration in riparian zones

Project Details

Abstract

With this study, we want to identify riparian zones that are eligible for restoration of the structural quality of the bank. The bank restoration should improve the habitat quality of the watercourse with a view to the area expansion of bullhead and brook lamprey from the locations where they occur today in Flanders (according to monitoring and observation).
In a first phase, we create a GIS map of species occurrence and the area within which we would expect the species in the short term in the absence of current pressures.
In a second phase, we describe site visits to the selected watercourse sections and give advice on the restoration of the riparian structure.
