Evaluation of Sigmaplan (EVINBO)

Project Details

Abstract

The Agency for Nature and Forests and De Vlaamse Waterweg nv started evaluating the updated Sigma Plan. In 2024, this was already done for topics such as reception and experience, stakeholder management, internal organisation, etc. At the same time, an evaluation of the climate resilience of the updated Sigma Plan was also carried out. This clearly showed that there are safety arguments for cutting into the reserve areas and intervening in areas outside them in the coming years. An initial screening of nature development (current + cautious forecast) within the updated Sigma Plan shows that additional interventions are also needed to achieve the nature targets.

INBO analyses, evaluates and makes a forecast for achieving the conservation objectives for breeding birds and wintering birds based on the currently designated Sigma areas and the areas still to be realised. These results are assessed in the light of two climate scenarios. The study should result in possible adaptation scenarios to achieve the objectives.
