Abstract
The LIFE+ Nature project ‘FLANDRE’ is a nature restoration project co-financed by the European Union. The study focuses on three topics:
• The project’s socio-economic impact on employment in the nature restoration and nature management sector, on the breeders of cattle, sheep and horse who are used for nature conservation work in the project area, on nature-oriented tourism, on the number of visitors and satisfaction of visitors to the estates managed by the Département du Nord and the Agency for Nature and Forest, and on the turnover of hotels and restaurants in the area of these nature reserves;
• The impact on the ecosystem services provided by the coastal dunes (coastal defences, freshwater reserves, etc.) throughout the project area;
• The success of the restoration of habitat types and species targeted by specific nature restoration work.
