Flemish flora database

Project Details

Abstract

The Florabank contains some 5 million items of data relating to the distribution of vascular plants in Flanders. As well as distribution data, it also contains details of about 100 characteristics per species, such as synonyms, indicator values, biotope preferences, reproduction characteristics, morphology, rarity, area, Red List and legal protection. The database is an initiative of Flo.Wer vzw, INBO and the Meise Botanic Garden Agency, although many other institutions and associations have also contributed to the database. Requests for distribution data may be submitted via the Florabank website, where the species-specific characteristics may also be looked up freely. Those registering as observers can enter their observations in the database themselves and (after they have been checked) look them up online.
