Genetic management of breeding stock for fish species recovery programmes

Project Details

Abstract

The INBO fish farm in Linkebeek is growing a number of fish species within the framework of species recovery programmes, including in the context of conservation objectives.
During breeding, it is important to regularly monitor the genetic diversity of the breeding stock and offspring in order to prevent impoverishment of genetic diversity (e. g. through introgress).
For this purpose, genetic samples are taken at regular intervals for the cultivated species, which are analysed by the Genetic Diversity team.
