Genetic monitoring of partridge (Perdix perdix) in Wallonia (EVINBO)

Project Details

Abstract

In this project, we investigate the genetic structure of partridges in Wallonia. Earlier, we conducted a similar study in Flanders. We developed a methodology to distinguish both wild partridges from bred birds and to evaluate introgression in the wild population. Unlike Flanders, the release of bred partridges is still allowed in Wallonia. This study therefore tries to find out how releases have affected the Walloon population and what the relationship between native and released partridges is. The Département d'Etude du Milieu Naturel et Agricole (DEMNA) is collecting DNA samples from about 300 partridges, which will be analysed by INBO and compared with the Flemish results.
