Identification, assessment, sharing and dissemination of best practices for the humane management of invasive alien species

Project Details

Abstract

Several vertebrates (mammals, birds, fish) figure on the list of invasive species of Union concern of the EU IAS Regulation 1143/2014. The management of these species needs to be effective, efficient and humane. This project, which is part of a bigger European tender that IUCN is coordinating for the European Commission (tender ENV.D.2/SER/2018/0019 “Identification, assessment, sharing and dissemination of best practices for the humane management of invasive alien species”), will bring together knowledge about possible management methods (including removal methods, methods for humane killing) and the legal frameworks around them in the Atlantic biogeographical region. These will be gathered in a best practice manual including a number of case studies. To this end, INBO and EAZA (European Association for Zoos and Aquaria) will organize a participative workshop with key stakeholders on the management of IAS.
