Project Details
Abstract
This project involves monitoring the numbers and distribution of top marine predators through standardised maritime and aerial surveys. In addition, the effects of anthropogenic activity (pollution, fisheries, windmills) on key marine species is investigated by means of counts of stranded seabirds, research into plastic in seabirds’ stomachs and the extent of oiling in seabirds and research into the diet and habitat use of seabirds. The research has considerable relevance for policymaking (RAMSAR, Natura 2000, OSPAR, Marine Strategy and the federal government) and forms part of INBO’s commitment to perform marine ecological research
