Abstract
Background
- additional funding on IAS (by the Ministry)
- many requests for scientific advice from managers on woody alien species
- various initiatives from forest groups, ANB and universities on assisted migration and on the introduction and management of woody alien species and provenances
Objective
1. develop a substantiated position and advice on woody alien species in Flanders
2. substantiate exotic species policy (prevention, rapid response, management) with state-of-the-art risk analyses
Method
- risk assessment (protocol Harmonia+) based on in-depth literature study for a list of woody alien species that are on the radar in Flanders
- devise an approach for a horizon scan on potential invasive species for protected forest habitats in Flanders
- targeted communication of practical guidelines and points of attention to site managers
- advice on current issues in management and policy on the use of and problems with woody alien species
