MBAG - MONIPOLLI (Monitoring pollnators and other insects)

Project Details

Abstract

MONIPOLLI is part of the launch of the Agricultural Biodiversity Monitoring Network (MBAG). The main goal of MONIPOLLI is to work out and implement a realistic monitoring scheme for pollinators in Flanders (northern Belgium). In the first place, this encompasses the development of a methodology for the sampling and identification of pollinator species. The pilot project SPRING (Strengthening pollinator recovery through indicators and monitoring) provides a significant contribution to that purpose. At the same time, the design of a network of pollinator sampling sites in Flanders is started. The effective implementation of this monitoring network is scheduled from 2025 onwards.
In a later phase this monitoring might be extended towards other invertebrates that play a crucial role in the functioning of agricultural ecosystems.
