Abstract
In 2005, in the context of the Right Bank Strategic Planning Process, the Buffer Study (Aeolus 2005) was drawn up, which among other things provided for the construction of a gull breeding site in loop R2-A12 and a large-scale nature development project in the Opstal valley area. The latter should enable the conservation objectives for De Kuifeend, which is found in the Birds Directive site ‘Kuifeend and Blokkersdijk’ (SPA BE2300222), to be achieved in a sustainable manner, taking account of developments in the Antwerp North marshalling yard. On behalf of the Agency for Nature and Forest, INBO is monitoring progress towards achieving these objectives together with Natuurpunt. This monitoring scheme is also collecting data that are important for the Scheldt Right Bank Management Commission, which was established in 2009.
