Abstract
We want to find out more about the population development of common spadefoots, after the introduction of bred common spadefoots in the source area Vijvergebied Midden-Limburg and in the introduction area De Maten.
Research questions:
- how well do the released animals survive, how does the population develop, is there reproduction and is it sufficient: can the population evolve independently without further releases, is the risk of extinction reduced/reversed, or should we start the exit programme?
- how does the mixed population develop compared to the pure population in the pond area: does reproduction improve, does genetic diversity increase, is the desired population size achieved (the nature goals)?
- what can we learn about common spadefoots' habitat requirements?
- is the reintroduction a success, what are the bottlenecks?
