Monitoring of changes in pressure on forest regeneration and ground vegetation by deer in Gewestbos Ravels and Hoge Vijvers

Project Details

Abstract

The surface targets for habitat type 9190 in Kempen, Antwerp, will largely have to be achieved by converting coniferous wood into oak deciduous wood, by natural rejuvenation. The high pressure caused by deer is an obstacle to this, because deciduous wood rejuvenation is selectively grazed. More knowledge of the most suitable techniques to reduce the pressure on the rejuvenation of these target species (hunting, fencing) is therefore needed.
