Abstract
Within the framework of the updated Sigma Plan, NV De Vlaamse Waterweg, Afdeling Zeeschelde near Fort Filip and the Parel Plaat (right bank) estuary area is being improved and expanded. The deep tidal channel and the so-called 'erosion pit' in the north of the site is not only uninteresting as a habitat but can also pose a problem for the stability of the adjacent bank.
In concrete terms, the plan is to fill part of the foreshore and the deepwater zone with sand from the raised zone around Fort Filip. The filled zone will be shallow subtidal and mudflat area. The excavated zone becomes a mud and salt marsh area.
The assignment includes the ecological monitoring of these interventions (benthos, habitats, vegetation)
