Monitoring of nutrient abundance of soils in grassland restoration projects of the Sigma Plan

Project Details

Abstract

In a number of nature development areas of the updated Sigma Plan, the restoration of species-rich barren grasslands is being pursued. Since most of the plots were previously farmed with conventional fertilisation, the soils are initially too nutrient-rich. Transitional management is needed, in which the soils are impoverished through intensive hay management without fertilisation for five years, in order to reach a favourable starting position. In this project, both soils and vegetation are being sampled at regular intervals in order to assess the success of the impoverishment management.
