Monitoring translocations of northern crested newt for De Vlaamse Waterweg nv

Project Details

Abstract

As a result of the Sigma works, northern crested newt's habitat is disappearing in the Mechelen river area. For this purpose, a translocation project was started on behalf of De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, in which animals were caught from the habitat to be removed, and are used in Linkebeek in a breeding programme in which the offspring of this breeding programme are added to an existing population in the neighbourhood.
ANB takes care of the catches and placements, INBO conducts scientific monitoring for 3 years.
