PhD Kaat Thienpont: 'Lost in the Flow: combining 3D fish tracking, hydraulic modeling, and flow pattern analysis to improve fishway findability'

Project Details

Abstract

This PhD research investigates how to improve the discoverability of fish passes (or fish ladders). The primary goal is to increase the effectiveness of investments in fish passes across the country through rigorous scientific study. Essentially, the research will validate existing hydraulic studies (from the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory) by comparing their findings with the actual behavior of wild fish, tracked with acoustic and PIT telemetry in the Scheldt river and the Liss.
