Abstract
The aim is to evaluate the ecosystem functioning of the current Sigma Plan. We examine which interventions are needed to future-proof the Scheldt estuary in the light of climate change (accelerated sea level rise, desiccation, precipitation peaks, etc.) and new challenges (e.g. increasing turbidity, increasing hydrodynamics). In doing so, we develop tools to provide the necessary scientific support for the deployment of the updated Sigma Plan and understand the effects of increasing turbidity and the impact of sediment dynamics.
