Abstract
This is a scientific study on the habitat suitability of the left bank of the Scheldt for the wall brown, so that mitigating measures can be derived from it. The project area covers the functional ecological unit (FEU) for the wall brown. This includes the port area on the left and right banks of the Scheldt, extended to include suitable areas around Kallo, in order to create a connection between the industrial area of Beveren and Zwijndrecht, and extended to include the (sigma) dykes on the edge of the port area.
The wall brown is included in the Antwerp Port species protection programme as an umbrella species for a well-functioning network of dry grasslands, a habitat type for which the port area is of high regional importance.
