SEIA LIFE Nardus & Limosa (EVINBO)

Project Details

Abstract

INBO supports VITO in carrying out a socio-economic impact analysis (SEIA) for the LIFE project Nardus & Limosa. The aim of the LIFE project is to restore heathland grasslands with a focus on meadow birds. For the SEIA INBO will interview farmers in the Turnhouts Vennengebied in order to identify the positive and negative effects they experience from the LIFE project.

Insights in socio-economic impacts of a nature development project can help to develop mitigation strategies that minimise the negative effects and maximise the positive ones. Moreover, an SEIA can demonstrate the social relevance of the project. For publicly funded nature development projects, it can be important to show that increasing biodiversity not only costs money but also generates social benefits such as better air quality, health, employment, etc.
