Sheep grazing between nature and agriculture, towards a profitable and circular business model

Project Details

Abstract

Sheep farmers keeping their animals in protected areas and on public lands struggle with lack of feed in the winter, obliging them to buy feed, which undermines the profitability and sustainability of their model. A potential solution is to allow the animals to graze in winter, for instance on cereal fields. This project will establish a network of interested stakeholders, explore their expectations and the barriers they face and develop a proposal for an operational group which reintroduces this practice in the Flemish landscape. The sheep in the landscape will demonstrate cooperation between agriculture and nature restoration.
