Abstract
Under the direction of Onroerend Erfgoed, we are conducting an analysis of historical maps to determine where and when forest complexes occurred in Flanders and where and when hedgerows, wood edges and tree rows were image-defining. The result of this analysis is map material (GIS data) that indicates where forests and hedgerows, wood edges and tree rows were or still are culturally-historically present, and where they are not. Based on this, Onroerend Erfgoed can determine where forests, hedges, wood edges and tree rows are culture-historically appropriate, and expansion or restoration is desirable.
