Beoordelingskader Europees te beschermen soorten: Verontreiniging en eutrofiëring van oppervlaktewater

Commissioned by the Agency for Nature and Forests (ANB) and in the framework of Natura 2000 policy, we are drafting an assessment framework that allows estimating the potential ecological impact of discharges on European protected Habitats Directive species bound to flowing water and their habitats. We identify species that are insufficiently protected under current environmental quality standards and provide water quality standards for each species.
Besides Habitats Directive species and their habitats, a number of Birds Directive species are also threatened by discharges into surface waters.
Not only watercourses but also nature reserves (and their species) outside watercourses can be threatened by discharges. We list and discuss some sensitive areas.
