Abstract

This report contains the results of the breeding bird monitoring from 2009 to 2022 for the Right Bank of the Scheldt, and compares the observed numbers with the nature targets. The area includes the Kuifeend part of Special Protection Area BE2300222 De Kuifeend and Blokkersdijk, the adjacent nature areas in the Antwerp North Railway Station, the Opstal Valley, the gull breeding site in the loop of the A12 motorway and the Hooge Maey. Because marsh harrier and bittern do not meet the conservation targets, we conclude that the area is in poor conservation status. Increased predation pressure by fox seems to be affecting breeding numbers.
