Abstract
Research shows a positive link between nature connectedness and both emotional and psychological well-being. Although spending time in nature is an important prerequisite for developing nature connectedness, it appears to be insufficient on its own. To strengthen nature connectedness, an active psychological engagement with nature is crucial.
In collaboration with the Agency for Nature and Forests and the Department of Environment, we set up a research project with a twofold objective, namely (1) to develop, commission and evaluate an eight-week programme to stimulate nature connectedness, and (2) to investigate the impact of this programme on nature connectedness, mental well-being and sustainable behaviour.
The study showed that the impact of the eight-week programme on nature connectedness, emotional and psychological well-being and sustainable behaviour was positive among participants and that this effect was still present one and a half months after the programme.
