Abstract
Molecular data confirm that Arcangeliella borziana Cavara (syn. nov. : Arcangeliella volemoides K. Mader & A. Mader) and Zelleromyces stephensii (Berk.) A.H. Sm. are two distinct Lactarius species. The taxonomic value of several morphological characters previously used in the systematics of Russulaceae (syn. : Elasmomycetaceae) is discussed. The new combinations Lactarius borzianus (Cavara) Verbeken & Nuytinck and Lactarius stephensii (Berk.) Verbeken & Walleyn are proposed. A lectotype is designated for Hydnangium monosporum Boud. & Pat. Its synonymy with Lactarius stephensii, suggested by Gross (1990), is confirmed.
