Abstract

The natterjack toad is an endangered species in Flanders. Only 11 populations (26%) are considered favourable. In 15 populations (36%) the results are mixed, while 16 populations (38%) are clearly in an unfavourable state. Some populations are even in critical condition and some already seem to be extinct, such as in Tienen and Temse.
On the other hand, populations have recently been discovered outside their original range and some translocations have increased their area. Functional, robust corridors and intermediate habitat as stepping stones are needed so that these populations can better disperse and cover large distances.
