Abstract

The deepening of the Europa terminal in the Antwerp port area (right bank of the Zeeschelde) involves building a new quay wall and deepening the mooring locations at the terminal.
The Europa terminal borders the 'Galgeschoor' nature reserve, European protected area under the Birds and Habitats Directives and Ramsar area.
The environmental impact report has identified potential impacts on the area. Through project monitoring, we will assess the impact during and after the works, especially for the northern part of the Galgeschoor. We focus on salt marsh vegetation, sediment quality and height changes of mudflats and salt marshes. Project monitoring proceeds in phases following the implementation phases of the works on the Europa terminal. Initially, this report describes the current state or reference state.
