Uittreksel
Since 1987 protective measure for Montagu's Harrier Circus pygargus have been in place in the French Lorraine. The breed there mainly in winter barley in large agricultural areas. In spite of the high breeding success, there seems to be a reduction in numbers. The authors put this down to the 'source - sink' theory. For more southerly unprotected but attractive breeding places in France the losses are so high that the birds are drawn away from the protected areas. The approximately 2 weed earlier harvest date could be decisive here. The authors appeal for protection in these key areas.
