Organisational unit: Team
Biodiversity is such a broad concept that only certain aspects of it can be monitored. Moreover, it is unfeasible to measure all relevant aspects in all places and at all times. In fact, though, this is not necessary: a sample is sufficient, on condition that the choice of sampling locations and times is statistically sound. The Biometrics, Methodology and Quality Assurance team gives researchers guidance on how to monitor the state of biodiversity as cost-effectively as possible. This enables policymakers to assess where the priorities lie and examine the extent to which the set targets have been achieved.
