Organisational unit: Team
The Landscape Ecology team investigates the functioning of ecosystems at the landscape level with a view to sustainable restoration and management. Systemic thinking and integration are fundamental elements of its approach. In open and semi-open dynamic landscapes with a significant ‘natural’ component, we investigate how spontaneous ecological processes can contribute to achieving societal goals in terms of biodiversity and the ecosystem services that depend on it. For the fragmented, multifunctional countryside, we focus on the spatial, usage-related and management conditions that must be met to ensure the ecological functioning of the ‘green-blue veining’ network. In both of these areas, ecological and social systems are always considered in relation to each other.
