Monitoring network: abiotic characteristics of Natura 2000 habitat types: soil

Project: Legally bound

Departments, research groups and services

Together with the sub-projects on the abiotic characteristics of Natura 2000 habitat types relating to groundwater, surface water and atmospheric deposition, this project seeks to work out the extent to which the current soil quality offers opportunities and constraints for achieving a good local conservation status. The objective is to develop suitable methods for the characterisation and monitoring of the soil environment (physical and chemical soil characteristics) in 24 terrestrial Natura 2000 habitat types in order to set up and run a soil monitoring network. Within this project, three phases are distinguished: (i) the elaboration of the INBO soil database (2014 - 2019), ii) methodological tests and exploratory evaluations of the data and iii) the development and the dimensioning of the soil monitoring network (from 2019 onwards).
